Americans can travel to Cuba, but there are certain restrictions. The United States government restricts trade and travel between the two countries. However, there are a number of exceptions that allow Americans to travel to Cuba for certain purposes.
The most common way for Americans to travel to Cuba is under the “people-to-people” category. This category allows Americans to travel to Cuba to engage in educational, religious, or cultural activities. Other categories that allow Americans to travel to Cuba include:
- Family visits
- Journalism
- Professional research
- Public performances
- Educational activities
- Humanitarian projects
Americans who travel to Cuba under one of these categories must still obtain a visa from the Cuban government. The airlines will not allow passengers to board a flight to Cuba without the proper visa. It is important to note that the Cuban government does not allow foreigners to visit Cuba for purely tourist purposes.
